A Brain Injury

               Brain Injury

Maybe I'm special. Not many people can say what I easily can. My life is split into two experiences of personality. I was one person up to the age of 44. Then a different person took over to inhabit my consciousness or what we refer to as 'self." Let me explain. Blue has always been my favorite color. Everybody knows the color blue, right? Maybe not. If someone were visually impaired or blind since birth, they may have no clue what color is at all, never mind the actual color of blue. And, for all we know, what one person sees as blue could be another person's red. When we learned our colors from our parents and teachers, they pointed to a color and said "this is blue." Whatever color you saw at the area they pointed to is now known to you as "blue." Maybe, what I see as red you call blue. Perhaps our brains don't interpret these color impulses the same and you have a totally different color-scape than I do with colors I couldn't even begin to recognize. What if we just try to describe it. The color blue. To describe a color without using color as a point of reference is impossible. "It's blue, like the sky!" Well, if you can't see the sky, that description would not be at all helpful. Trying to explain something to someone requires a common point of reference to base your explanation on. Without that, we cannot communicate a thought, idea or situation. Can a color be described to someone who cannot see, an aroma to someone who cannot smell or a sound to someone who cannot hear? Which brings me to my point. Since diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1999, I have found there is no way to explain my deficits or the effects of the changes in my consciousness to someone who has not experienced changes in their brain. Having a "new brain" is far from anything most people experience. The only people who truly understand are the ones who live with it themselves. The "insiders". And, even for us, the experiences are commonly quite unique due to the complexity of the brain itself. As hard as our friends, family and significant others try, they will never truly be able to understand. To them, it is something that happens at certain events or places or while trying to do something in particular. To us, it never goes away. We take it with us wherever we go. We don't forget it because it is part of us. It is who we now are. It is a reality that we become 'accustomed' to or learn to accept. This is not a pity party. In fact, I have learned many positive lessons from this experience. For me, it is a brain injury; for someone else, it is being an amputee, someone else, losing a child -- everyone has, as they say, a torch to bear. As much as we want to empathize and understand what others are going through, we have to accept the limitations of our abilities to do so. I believe accepting the fact that people can not completely understand is critical for true acceptance of our situation, whatever that may be. For me, it is time to stop trying to explain. Time to let go of the frustration that arises by the repeated unsuccessful attempts to explain why I behave the way I do, why I need certain modifications to my environment and why I react the way I do. This realization is very new to me. I am sharing it for others in the same or similar situation because I truly believe this is a key element to full healing... not worrying so much about others understanding. Somehow, this realization is quite liberating for me. I write this because I know I am not alone. After 19 years of this being my reality, and after 19 years of trying to get those around me to understand, I am stopping. How can I expect someone to truly understand without any point of personal reference to base their understanding on? It is like trying to describe the color blue to someone. It just can't be done. I have liberated myself. I hope I have helped to liberate at least one other in the process. Patricia Rose, R.N. is a retired nurse epidemiologist who specialized in pediatric AIDS research.     Cancer Is a Food Allergy Disease As

Well As Environment Over many years of observation plus my limited knowledge of medical problems, having once been a medical student and more recently a student of genetics, the outstanding thing about cancer is the lifestyle of sufferers. While smoking contributes to onsets there is limited research into food allergies causation. My guess is that governments disallow facts to be known, as was the case with tobacco. One incredible red flag for pancreatic and liver cancers is sugar, a major component of most foods. Alcohol is another and the two combined can be deadly. While sugar C12OH22O11), and alcohol (C2H5OH) differ in chemical make-up their effect on the digestion system is tha problem. The function of the liver is to breakdown fats before they reach the pancreas. In simple terms this works in the small intestine in the presence of bile and digestive juices secreted by the pancreas. This is an essential part of maintaining good health. In the presence of an overdose of sugar or alcohol the liver and associated organs are over whelmed. Fat slips through undigested and accumulates in both the liver and pancreas. It builds up contributing to obesity and leading to cancer of these vital organs and other issues. Alcohol is a food and it is toxic to the liver, which then uses all its secretions to neutralise it. That allows fats to go untreated and thus the recognition that alcohol is fattening. Along with these two substances there are many others that will take precedence over normal liver function. My observations show that preservatives are also toxic but less so than the other two. They contain nitrites and nitrates that exist in bacon, sausages, lunch meat, hot dogs, smoked fish, ham and also corned beef. Sulfites exist in wine, shrimp, dried fruit and potato foods to preserve colour in food. If you are sensitive they can cause skin irritations, hypertension, abdominal pain and asthma symptoms. Sodium benzoate, or benzoic acid when combined with vitamin C is linked to cancer and leukaemia and damage to heart, liver, kidneys, spleen, brain and adrenal glands. This topic is huge but the bottom line is to eat fresh, prepare your own food, and avoid anything with preservatives and especially potato products, such as packet chips, etc. Consuming these things is also piling on the weight as people become addicted to the taste which is highlighted by a high degree of salt, which is bad for the heart and blood vessels. The latter also contain high quantities of trans fats what are stored around the vital organs as they cannot be digested by the liver. In effect, they are as bad as smoking for long-term health. What Is the Issue About Grey Market Tractors? Grey market tractors are often talked about, or written about,in slightly hushed tones, as if there was something slightly under the table or under the counter about them. They also talked about often in very unpatriotic terms, as if someone buying them is undercutting people's jobs and livelihoods in their own country. It is properly worth clarifying what a grey market tractor is, and what the pros and cons are of buying them. In general terms, a great market tractor is one that has been built for another market, and then imported into a third country. As an example, a tractor may be built in Japan, and intended for sale in the Japanese market. This tractor could then be imported, into the United States and sold under the manufacturers brand. This would be known as a grey market tractor. The advantage to many people is really about price. Whilst it is difficult to generalise about great market prices, it is fair to say that a grey market tractor that was brand new could well be sold for about half the price of the equivalent tractor made for the home market. Given the price of tractors and agricultural machinery, where costs can run into tens of thousands of US dollars, savings of that magnitude can be enormous, and can make a huge difference to someone's ability to run a farm or run construction machinery. While savings on cost, in terms of list price, can be significant, there are other financial considerations as well as mechanical and safety considerations to take into account. There are some legal precedents that imply that grey market tractors are illegal, and the importation of them breaks a number of basic state and federal laws in the United States. Many people will argue that the main argument against grey market tractors however, is often they lack the safety features that are built into models made for a particular market, such as the United States. Any tractor manufactured for sale in the US must comply with fairly rigid safety laws and regulations. A tractor made for a foreign market, and then shipped into the United States will not necessarily have been built to the same exacting standards that US tractors must adhere to. This is particularly true of things regarding safety, such as the fitting of an ROPS, a safety cabin and other safety features. There may also be problems in terms of credit and finance when coming to by the tractor. A number of lenders who would normally consider a loan or leasing arrangement will back off the idea if they are aware that it is a grey market tractor. At the same time, failure to disclose it, if the buyer is aware, would almost certainly be an act of fraud on their part, and could lead to serious financial and legal implications. The other implications normally relate to items such as obtaining spare parts, servicing and maintenance and voiding of any warranty that may be purchased or relating to the particular tractor. Obviously any manufacturer's warranty would not apply, and any dealer warranty could run into serious difficulties if contested. The other consideration that has to be taken into account is the insurance of the tractor. Most tractors need to have some type of liability insurance, when being used on any type of land and also when used on road. Insurance on a grey market tractor would be a very tricky area to navigate, and would most likely only come to light in the event of an insurance claim, or a potential liability suit. Project Risk Management and Assurance Why do so many organisations embark on high-risk projects without demanding robust project assurance? Projects fail for many reasons. Recent global studies indicate that inadequate risk management is a common cause. Successful project managers aim to resolve high levels of exposure before they occur, via systematic risk management processes. Many projects are inherently exposed to myriad risks and are often significant in scale, complexity and ambition. Delivering large-scale projects can often be adversely impacted by a bias towards being over-optimistic. Imperfect, insufficient or inadequate data increases exposure that often results in over-estimating benefits and under-estimating costs. Managing macro and micro-level events related to achieving project deliverables, whilst balancing the needs of many stakeholders, has become increasingly important. Assessing risks at both portfolio and work-stream levels helps increase confidence that risks are understood. Projects are often prioritised relevant to their levels of perceived exposure and one has its own risk profile. Project Risk Management Project risk management focuses on identifying, analysing and responding to project events. It should be designed to systematically identify and manage levels of uncertainty and potential threats to delivering project objectives successfully. Risk management processes should be iterative throughout a project's life-cycle and embedded in project management planning and activities. Smaller projects often require minor work and periodic monitoring. Complex projects need formalised processes to analyse, manage and report risks. Good reporting relies on clear descriptions of all exposure, their impact on the projects, and potential costs for mitigation and inaction. This helps ensure project personnel understand the potential impact risks may have on projects' success and have prepared strategies to minimise negative consequences. Problems occur when there is limited visibility of risks at project and portfolio levels or approaches to risk-management are ad-hoc and inconsistent. Further problems can arise when risks are identified but recorded at a very high level accompanied by highly subjective risk ratings, rather than being the result of more substantive risk assessment. When these problems arise, an organisation would benefit from clearer, more formal and wide-spread processes for capturing and monitoring risks. Project and Portfolio Risk Assessments Project and portfolio risk assessments should be undertaken to understand their risk profiles and associated threats in achieving business objectives. Assessments should identify the action plans to address the risks identified and allocate executive responsibility to manage them. Additional risk assessments should be carried out on selected projects (perhaps by prioritising them by value or complexity). Risk management processes should be on-going and monitored throughout a project's life-cycle. Regular risk reports would provide Project Sponsors, Senior Responsible Officers and Steering Groups with better visibility of projects' risk profiles. Whether you're responsible for overseeing or managing a project, robust project assurance will help you address the risks that threaten its success. Tips for a Flawless Faux Eyelash Application Make sure you read these tips to help you apply false eyelashes. Applying false lashes is much easier than it seems and you can do it like a pro in no time! Want to get the most natural look from faux eyelashes? It is definitely easier than you think. Here are a few tips to get you started: Make sure to take your eyelashes out of the package and bend them back and forth to soften the strip. The good eyelash strips will already have a soft strip so no need to over do it because most of the work will be done with you. Make sure to measure the eyelash strip and make necessary adjustments. If you want to make sure that the eyelash looks natural then you need to make sure that the strip is the exact same size as your natural lashes. Trim the extra pieces if any, and make sure that both eyelash strips are the same length. Apply mascara to your own eyelashes BEFORE applying the eyelash strip. Putting mascara on your own lashes makes a huge difference when trying to apply the eyelash strip because it gives it more surface area for the lash to adhere to. This technique also makes it easier to remove the eyelash strip at the end of the night because the lash is attached to mascara and not just your bare lashes. Once you apply the adhesive on the strip of eyelashes make sure to allow the adhesive to dry. The adhesive has to stay on the eyelash strip for at least a full minute before you put it on so that it can stick to the eyelash. This will help you keep your flawless look for the entire night without worrying that they will fall off. Lastly, make sure to use makeup remover when taking off your eyelashes. This will save your natural lashes so they don't fall off and it also helps keep your eyelash strip in good condition. I usually apply the remover on the lashes and let it soak for a few minutes while I finish off my bedtime routine and then slowly remove them. If you use a remover and take care of the lashes they should last you quite a bit. All opinions expressed are genuine and my own.
